A group of EECS students have won the Emerging Underclassman Innovator Award at the RedesigNU: Hackathon held on Wednesday, April 26, 2014.
Team "WuGAS", consisting of Yulun Wu ('17), Greg Chan ('16), Adel Lahlou ('17) and Suhong Jin ('16) collected the $500 prize for best project submitted by a team where each member is an underclassman.
Their winning design "Course Connect", is a service that allows users to browse and rate courses, as well as apply the "What courses do I take?" feature, which allows students to find the most suitable classes for them, based on an applied algorithmic formula compliled of previous classes taken. Using machine learning, the site builds a profile based on your academic history and helps build for your use, a better curriculum every single quarter.
RedesigNU is a chance for NU students to design web services that make life easier for their fellow students. 29 teams were formed to create a web application, mobile app, Chrome extension, or other coding design with the judging criteria and voting scored on four areas: usefulness to students, functionality, visual design, and innovation.
