"Advances in Optical Code Division Multiplexing"
Abstract: Optical code-division multiplexing (OCDM) is a rapidly advancing area. This talk will review recent progress in OCDM. In particular, I shall highlight our experimental work on a high spectral efficiency and a WDM-compatible system. I will present its application to physical layer security through the programmable control of optical phase in novel ring resonator-based integrated devices and finally present fiber transmission results for an aggregate 40Gb/s OCDM stream with an enhanced degree of confidentiality.

Biographical Sketch: Anjali Agarwal is a Senior Scientist with the Optical Networking Systems group at Telcordia, Red Bank, NJ. She received her M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1997 and 2001, respectively. She joined the Optical Networking Group at Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, NJ as a Member of Technical Staff in 2001, where she was involved in the research and development of Lucent Technologies’ next generation optical transport product. Her experience includes optical-CDMA, high capacity, high rate DWDM systems, spectrally-efficient modulation formats, all-optical signal processing, and nonlinear optics. Her current research focuses on a DARPA-funded project on photonic RF signal processing, in addition to technologies for 100 Gb/s (and higher) rates. Dr. Agarwal is a member of IEEE and OSA.
