"Analog Fiber Optic Links: From Basics to Applications"
Abstract:

Optical networks, GPS and radio astronomy are among applications that fiber optics transmitting analog signals are used for. Analog fiber optic links use a different set of metrics than those used for the more common digital fiber optic links and have stricter requirements for the optoelectronic devices used in the link. In this talk, the basics of analog fiber optic links including the metrics used to evaluate the performance of these links will be covered. Examples of different applications will also be shown.

BIO:
Preetpaul S. Devgan received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern in 2006, after he worked in the Optical Networking Group at Lucent Technologies. He is currently a research engineer at the US NRL, working in analog photonic systems; specifically on long-haul analog photonic link design, optoelectronic oscillators and low-noise fiber amplifiers.
