Alok Choudhary named John G. Searle Professor

Alok Choudhary, professor and chair of the electrical engineering and computer science department and professor of technology industry management in the Kellogg School of Management, has been named a John G. Searle Professor.
His research interests include high-performance computing, data mining and its applications, computer architecture and the design of software systems. Choudhary has written more than 300 papers on these topics and has written 11 book chapters.
Choudhary is founding director of the Center for Ultra-scale Computing and Information Security that conducts highly innovative information technology research. Currently the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy and many companies support his work.

Faculty Activities & Accolades
Aggelos Katsaggelos was the Technical Program Co-Chair for the Int'l Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services (WIAMIS), London and the Picture Coding Symposium (PCS), Chicago in May 2009. In August, Prof. Katsaggelos served as general Co-Chair of Int'l Conf. on Computer Communications and Networks (ICCCN 2009) in San Francisco, and the Latin-American Conference on Networked and Electronic Media (LACNEM 2009) in Bogota, Colombia.
Ian Horswill gave an invited talk at Microsoft Research called "Twig: a simple, AI-friendly, character world for believable agents" in September.
Aggelos Katsaggelos gave a plenary talk on "Compressive Sensing" at LACNEM 2009.
Prem Kumar has been reappointed to a two year term as AT&T Professor of Information Technology, through August 31, 2011. This recognizes Prof. Kumar’s continued success in photonic communications and computing.
