How do I get a course petition signed by the department chairperson?

  • The office of the Chair, Prof. Alan Sahakian, is Tech L356, and he maintains an open door policy.  Prof. Chris Riesbeck can sign petitions for graduate students. 
 

How do I get on/off the EECS email alias?

  • Undergraduates, please contact Juliet Ludwig (Tech L356; email juliet at eecs.northwestern.edu). Include your current year and area of study.

How do I reserve a conference room (Tech L324, L348, or Ford 3-340)?

I am a TA and need a copy of the textbook(s)

I am a TA and need a key to the lab

Keys for undergraduate teaching labs (MG18, CG10, CG30 and CG50) are issued to TAs currently teaching in those labs at no cost.

Carol is the one to see for all key-related requests, by the way.
   

I have a question or an issue regarding my paycheck.

I need a confirmation letter for my visa renewal or to travel out of the country.

Please see the EECS Graduate Office personnel in Tech L351.
 

I need a permission number and/or want to be added to a waiting list for a course

[Special note for "instructor consent" courses: Students must speak with the professor listed in CAESAR before requesting a permission number.]    Students should email their requests to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Emailed requests should contain the following information:
1) The course number "EECS _ _ _" and the phrase "permission number" in the subject line (This will be automatic if you click on the email address, above)
2) Your full name
3) Major and Level (i.d. freshman, sophomore, etc.)
4) Instructor's name
5) Your phone number (not required but handy if e-mail bounces back)
 

I need a taxi to take me to the airport.

I would like to do a 'overload' or an 'underload' of classes for next quarter, whom should I contact?

If you are an undergrad and would only like to take two classes (underload) or more than six classes (overload) in any given quarter, please contact Joseph Holtgreive, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Engineering.

My Master/PhD prospectus, oral or final defense is coming up. What do I do?

You'll need to complete the Examination Request Form a few weeks in advance. That form is found at this link: http://www.eecs.northwestern.edu/academics/forms.html 
Also, be sure to check in with the EECS Graduate Office personnel in Tech L351 (phone: 847-467-2165) for specific requirements, and make sure your Advisor knows what your plans are.   There is lots of pertinent information in the Graduate Study Manual.
 

What are the rules about traveling to countries with U.S. Department of State Travel Warnings?

All faculty, staff, and graduate students traveling to countries with U.S. Department of State Travel Warnings under university sponsorship, are required to complete the following steps (taken from the  NU Travel Warning page of the Office of Risk Management website).

Permission numbers for TGS courses must be obtained from The Graduate School, 633 Clark Street, Evanston.
