Hotels, B&Bs, short-term housing resourcesParking on/near campusVisitors, please request a parking pass from your EECS host before arriving on campus. If you have not arranged this ahead of time, and you drive to campus without one, you may stop at the KIOSK in the lot NE of Tech (accessed via Lincoln Ave) or at the Parking Office at 1819 Hinman (about half a mile S of Tech) to purchase a one-day visitor's pass ($10) which allows parking in most of the lots on campus (F-lots) between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. All other times/days a permit is not required.Free 2-hour street parking can be found on the neighborhood streets within two or three blocks from Tech and Ford buildings. Be careful not to overstay: after two hours a parking ticket will be issued by diligent City of Evanston meter agents.
TaxisWhen you arrive at O'Hare Airport, you can telephone any of the following taxicab companies. These companies have a standard rate (approximately $40 + tip) from O'Hare to the Evanston campus; others do not necessarily have a standard rate. It's 17.5 miles / 40 minutes each way. Norshore Taxi - (847) 864-7500 303 Taxi - (888) 225-5303 American Taxi - (847) 255-9614 Note: If you are making a day trip to NU campus, it is still better to take a taxi cab from the airport and back, instead of renting a car. L Train ($2.25 in town; $5 into the city from O'Hare airport)Purchase a fare card at the O'Hare L station. Ride the Blue Line to the Loop, and change trains to the Red Line (to Howard). If the Purple Line is running (rush hours only) take that instead of the Red Line. Otherwise, change trains at Howard to the Purple Line (Evanston line) (be sure you don't get on the Yellow line! aka the Skokie Swift). Ride to the Noyes stop (nearest to Tech). Walk East four blocks to Tech. Total time about ~1.5 hours. Details: http://www.transitchicago.com/Fare info: http://www.transitchicago.com/farechanges/ |
