7/22/2008 — Programming MS Access - very short term

A cardiologist at Northwestern University, Chicago campus needs help from an undergraduate or graduate student to organize their plasmid DNA database. This would involve programming Microsoft Access program and designing the "forms" interface. This process should take probably 2-3 hours. Pay is $15-20 per hour plus parking.

7/18/2008 — Website project for Hanna Banana Bread Company, Glencoe

Hannah Banana Bread Company is based in Glencoe. It is a firm started by my wife, Lisa Spinner in 2000 and is named after our daughter Hannah. We provide high-quality baked goods that are either sold by the slice at coffee shops or by the loaf in specialty food and grocery stores. All of our products are named after our kids and family members.

Our website was launched in the fall of 2006. Very few changes have been made to it over the last few years, primarily because our previous web designer was unable to build in a back office interface that could be easily managed by someone who does not have a firm grasp of HTML code. That’s a problem, since I often need to make changes to the site and have no way of doing it.

Thus, I am looking for a few basic things:
1. A revised back office setup that will enable me to easily post new documents and photos on the site, as well as change existing content embedded on each page.
2. A basic e-commerce feature would also be a nice addition to the site for our gift boxes and can be outsourced to Yahoo or another vendor, but I would like some assistance in getting this set up as well.

Please contact Pete Spinner, Vice President

4/30/2008 — sentiam, inc. - Software developer

Software developer – OO trained, with Flex/ActionScript experience

We are an Internet-based company that develops, manufactures, and ships fotoflōt, a patented system for displaying digital images. We receive customers’ uploaded digital images, transform them into fotoflōts and ship them directly to the end customer. Each product we ship is customized by our customers through the Rich Internet Application our web presence provides. Our first-generation RIA has received high marks for speed, usability, and intuitive user experience for the complex product customization tasks.

We base our development on a distributed computing philosophy and are executing the next elements of our aggressive development roadmap towards ever increasing features and functions. For this we are seeking help from an ActionScript developer who will help push our web presence way beyond what now is commonly called a "Rich Internet Application".

Our IT environment makes use of many open source components such as: Apache and Tomcat, CVS, Cygwin on Windows XP, Eclipse Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT), Eclipse IDE for Java, ActionScript, and Adobe AIR, GIMP, Java Enterprise Edition, ImageMagick, JBoss, Linux (RedHat Enterprise Edition), Little CMS (lcms), MySql, OpenOffice, Putty, VNC, and WordPress MU.

You are educated in object oriented programming and have significant working experience with Java and ActionScript/Flex. You can demonstrate your ability to extend framework classes and to create your own components from scratch.

You also understand the fundamentals of Web Services and remote method invocation for the integration of ActionScript based desktop applications with server based Java/J2EE frameworks. We use Adobe's recently released BlazeDS for the AS/Java communication. In preparation of our next generation RIA you will:
- Review the released web presence, recommend changes to the internal structure, and develop the required changes.
- Develop a component model for the next generation web presence and advise a development and migration plan for the roadmap items.
- Develop an exception handling approach and a rigorous testing approach so that the RIA releases are "rock stable" and fully functional on a wide range of operating system and browser platforms.
- Advise the use of existing ActionScript classes, modules, or components available through Open Source developments or from commercial suppliers. We are willing to contribute back to the open source communities that we can draw functionality from.
- Independently execute the development plan and provide high-quality releasable RIAs at the scheduled points in time.

At this point in time, we are looking for a part-time contractor but expect you to be a fully integrated member of the team. Please respond only if you can demonstrate the skills described above. Sharing our passion for photography would be a plus, but is not a requirement. We are convinced that you'll be excited about this opportunity once we share more details of our company, our products and our future plans. You will also be impressed with the team and the growth opportunity we can provide you especially if you want to become an IT generalist or architect. You will be contributing materially to our next generation web presence and we are open to compensation partially in equity.
